I'm so thankful for Lisa's blog entry and it prompted me to write about something we call Early Morning Depression.. When we first wake up, our minds and bodies are "crashing" into each other. All our anxiety, fears, anger etc..trip over each other while our minds are spitting out "what ifs' and doomsday scenarios.
Early Morning Depression in many ways stiffens our limbs, dries our mouth and scares us with the thoughts of all that is ahead. I turned off the light last night, was prepared for a good sleep and a pleasant morning ...instead, I woke up to ruminate and worry and in seconds was shaking and sweating! Sound familiar?
I have tried many preparations, but now embrace the idea to NOT lie there afraid. Rather, I suggest get up! Brush your teeth and allow yourself a choice of walking around a bit, making a small list to just check in, do some targeted body stretches, etc. etc....Don't forget some music to sing along with, soothe you and distract you from your thoughts.
Please know you are in control and these morning "scaries" can be calmed. Do not rush and be sure to be kind to yourself. . And please be relieved to know that so many others have these same responses.
Hopefully it will comfort you to know that many of the antidepressant and anti anxiety medications that so many of us take are known to cause a lot of sweating.. Do not panic! It is the medicine!
And remember..... always know it is SO often when you tell a friend you are so afraid of these symptoms that there is a high chance they will thank you for sharing and confide that the same or similar thing happens to them!
Knowing you are not alone is half the battle. We are all in this together.
With so much love and please be in touch with us anytime,
Barbara
